GodReflection: Walk Toward the Quake
To be truthful a renewed earth and heaven were not high on my concerns over the majority of my walk across life. As a product of my time in history I understood the earth and all creation were to be destroyed and Jesus followers would be afloat in heaven as bodiless spirits.
That is no longer my understanding.
I find that as I move closer to the finish line my interest peaks toward the next reality. Where will eternal life take place? What will it contain? Will I be me?
I am the first to admit my fallen brain’s limitations to comprehend the next reality. I suspect that is part of the reason God hasn’t gone into detail to describe the total magnificence of the restored earth. My only reference for comparison is the marred current state.
I have no way to envision this world in complete Holy restoration. It’s impossible to imagine with accuracy a reality I’ve never seen.
However, I’ve come to believe the entirety of Scripture shares considerably more information on the subject than most of us imagine. The first two chapters of our Bible describes the perfect creation and the last two chapters of our Bible describes the perfect re-creation.
Upon the final defeat of Satan God will restore planet earth to perfection. Jesus will reign as King. Father, Son and Spirit will reside in Holy fellowship with us. As holy children we will live in the presence of the Holy on earth in a state that will exceed our expectations.
This yet to come reality with be announced by God’s final redemptive earthquake.
God spoke to the prophet Isaiah seven hundred years prior to the birth of Jesus of a time when God rises to shake the earth in judgement (Isaiah 2).
With the same quake language Jesus reveals to John the quake cleansing that will put into motion the restoration of earth and heaven.
Promises of the prophets and of Jesus as they vibrate through Scripture are highlighted by Jesus through John’s account in beautiful Apocalyptic language.
There was a great earthquake. . . The heavens receded like a scroll being rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place (Revelation 6:12-14).
Then there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder and a severe earthquake. No earthquake like it has ever occurred since mankind has been on earth, so tremendous was the quake (16:18).
Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea (21:1).
“Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new” (22:3-5).
I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.
The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there. The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it.
Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life. (Rev 21:22-27).
Once again, I find myself over my word count. Here is what I conclude.
My walk is headed toward a time when Christ will return to welcome his family into the safety of his presence. In the process both God’s mercy and judgement will be passed.
The heavens and earth will quake in eternal restoration and settle into perfection and beauty beyond my imagination.
Those who placed their trust in Jesus while on this defective earth will live with each other and with Father, Son and Spirit on the restored earth.
Lord Jesus come quickly and quake the earth one last time.
