GodReflection: My Contract with Jesus Reviewed
I’ve discovered a section in my contract with Jesus that I didn’t understand when I signed on. I’ll let you in on a secret. I still don’t understand it to the fullest. However, I grasp enough of what Jesus placed in this part of our agreement to make me extremely glad I signed.
His part of the contract states he is in the process of work with God and Spirit to make everything new. The Godhead will restore creation to perfection.
My part is to surrender my heart so that as perfect eternity begins, I will become a brand new zero-kilometer model and be perfectly aligned with Father, Son, and Spirit on a fresh pristine earth. Neither I nor the earth will ever run down again.
We will live in eternal perfection in company of the Holy.
No, I didn’t understand any of the above when I signed on with Jesus.
However, just because I failed to understand that God was at work to restore perfection, didn’t make it any less true.
God spoke through the prophet Isaiah to communicate His plan:
“See, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind . . .” (Isaiah 65:17).
Earlier, God described His abundant presence on the new earth as a banquet of rich food, the best meats, the finest of wines, where death will no longer be known and where tears will be absent forever (Isaiah 25:6-8).
Jesus promised I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am (John 14:3).
The Apostle Peter identified the destination in words similar to Isaiah’s, in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells (2 Peter 3:13).
Jesus showed the Apostle John what we can expect:
Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.
I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true” (Revelation 21:1-5).
I envision the new earth as our current earth restored to its original state of perfection.
Gifts of God that we enjoy in this present world will be ours just as they would have developed had Satan not messed with God’s perfect creation.
Here is how I see my future life on the new earth. Every good gift I now enjoy will be amplified to perfection. The colors and scenery I enjoy in the present world will be richer and my perfectly restored eyesight will cause me to praise God for every magnificent detail.
I will be able to appreciate art and music to the fullest degree. God will enrich me with all knowledge. He will still be God thus in His presence the new will continue to unfold throughout eternity.
I will enjoy relationships in unlimited abundance and to maximum depths. There will be an eternal feast that will never grow old nor will it increase my weight.
There will be no need for locks. Jesus the Truth will become so at one with his creation that no lie will ever again be told. On a new earth free from sin the concepts of harm, fear, pain and death will be extinct.
With the absence of Satan lust will have no luster. Every act will be to honor the Holy and for the benefit of one another.
The new earth will have the richest of coffee and an eternity to catch up with our friends from the first earth and to get to know others from across the pages of history. You are on my list. I look forward to our time together.
Ok–now for my disclaimer. Whatever conclusion I’ve reached as to how the new reality might look may be wrong.
I do know this. I can trust Holy God with the next reality. God’s restored perfection will be more magnificent than anything my limited human brain can currently grasp or imagine. I don’t want to miss it.
Once again, that makes Jesus signature and my signature vital to the contract. He signs as guarantor. I sign to receive access to his promised RESTORED PERFECTION.
A reread of my old contract brings renewed assurance for my daily walk.
Jesus signature is strong. The red blood from his quill remains bold and clear. It is easy to read—Jesus The Christ Son of God (risen from the grave). His grace filled signature covers all my sin.
Won’t you join me and reread your contract? Is Jesus signature on your contract?
