Contract Promise: Holy Help to Navigate Life

GodReflection: My Contract with Jesus Reviewed

gary-2015My access to GPS (Global Positioning System) provides me with input to get from one place to another when I drive. Most of the time it proves correct. However, there are occasions when it leads me wrong and I miss my desired destination.

One big deal just over the horizon previews a gps4not-to-distance future of computer guided cars. We will be able to take our hands from the steering wheel and let the computer drive us. News stories already inform of crashes and defects during pre-release testing. The technology is still not infallible.

When I look at my contract signed with Jesus, I find really good news. I am promised Holy Help to navigate life. Not only am I promised guidance with life navigation but I am also assured assistance to reach safely my eternal destination

holyhelp1Near our home there is a yard sign in front of houses on one street that reads, “Drive like your kids live here.”

It occurs to me that’s a sign that could be adapted with a word change and staked into my heart. “Drive like the Spirit lives here.” After all that is the promise on my contact with Jesus. He promised Holy Help to navigate life.

Holy help is better than any computer or GPS. The Gospels and the Letters stand witness to the promise. My Holy GPS was issued at baptism. Paul describes it as, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts (Galatians 4:6). John names it, The Spirit of Truth who is our advocate to help you and be with you forever. . . for he lives with you and will be gps3in you (John 14:16-17).

When Paul told first century Christians to walk by the Spirit (Galatians 5:16) and affirmed, Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit (5: 25), he gives a verbal picture to the reality of those who signed on with Jesus, “Drive like the Spirit lives here.”

Perhaps a clearer way to express it is since the Spirit resides within, I need to move over and trust the Holy to navigate my life. The Holy GPS is infallible. I can trust it. It will never lead me to a wrong destination.

gps18I’ve seen enough to confirm that on our own none of us have the ability to navigate life. I cannot anticipate all the turns life takes. By my own power I can’t steer around fallen trees, sink holes nor can I anticipate collapsed bridges that go unidentified on my GPS. I need Holy Help to navigate life.

One other promise is tied closely to Holy Help for life navigation. That is Jesus promise of assured destination. Not only is he going to keep me on track in this life, he promises safe passage into the next reality on a new earth under a restored heaven.

It will be the culmination of life eternal. I will then live life free from pain and free from the imperfections that plague my walk on the present earth. I signed because he promised:

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.  My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am . . .” (John 14:1-3).

contract5That make Jesus’ signature and my signature vital to the contract. My signed name gives me access to Holy Navigation and an assured destination. His autographed name assures me he can be trusted.

A reread of my old contract brings renewed assurance for my daily walk.

Jesus’ signature is strong. The red blood from his quill remains bold and clear. It is easy to read—Jesus The Christ Son of God (risen from the grave).

Won’t you join me and reread your contract?

Stay tuned.
