GodReflection: God Shares His Secret
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Thus, Moses pens the first words of Holy Scripture.
He begins with the Song of Creation sung by the Hebrew people for hundreds of years. The song ends with God’s affirmation that all He had created was good and His rest on the seventh day.
The good God Affirmed included the creation of man and woman.
Genesis chapter two records God’s revelation of the creation story through the words of Moses. With the appearance of Serpent Satan in the garden, chapter three introduces the cosmic drama of Holy God verses Satanic evil.
God had a plan prior to those opening three chapters of my Bible. It was a secret he held for the next thousands or perhaps millions of years. (That thought alone goes beyond my pay scale. I can’t possibly fathom these words that I have just written).
I don’t know if the Apostle Paul had an aha moment like, “So that was what God was doing,” or if God share with him in direct revelation. However just like the apostle my current and future reality comes about by a secret plan held in the mind of God prior to creation:
For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love, He predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will—to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding (Ephesians 1:4-8).
Paul quickly connects these verses to what he calls God’s secret plan.
God did what he had purposed, and made known to us the secret plan he had already decided to complete by means of Christ. This plan, which God will complete when the time is right, is to bring all creation together, everything in heaven and on earth, with Christ as head Ephesians 1:9-10).
Peter, one of Jesus first apostles and an aged elder of God’s people, described the Christ and His salvation work as chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake (1 Peter 1:20).
Here is what I believe to be the message of the Bible:
A rebellion had taken place in heaven when Satan revolted and took his stand against the Holy.
He positioned himself against the essence of God. That placed Satan in opposition to love, justice and life the very embodiment of God.
With the Satanic action Satan became the broker of hate, injustice and death.
To stop the corrosive Satanic flow into the universe God developed a secret plan.
It was a plan to restore love, justice and life to the Holy and by so doing would obliterate Satan and his destruction.
The plan would require the creation of humankind as a receptor of God’s essence and as an eternal reflector of love, justice and life. For that to happen Satan had to be stopped. Perfect love, justice and life are impossible with the presence of Satan.
Is it possible that humankind was created to demonstrate to Satan that freewill love and commitment to the Holy was indeed doable?
Adam and Eve weren’t Holy mistakes. Their sin, although it hurt God’s heart, did not catch Him by surprise.
God knew from before time that humankind would need Jesus and His Holy Spirit to provide power for freewill function.
God in His eternal wisdom held His secret until Gabriel made the Holy announcement to Zechariah, Elizabeth, Mary and Joseph—the time had come to reveal what He had planned prior to creation.
Jesus the Christ is the key that connects the human heart to the heart of God.
To have even an elementary comprehension of what God had designed and held as a secret from humankind would take the fullness of Jesus’ man-stay upon the earth among the descendants of Adam and Eve.
In the next post, I want to exam the contents of God’s secret and how Jesus raised the curtain to reveal it for all to see.
