GodReflection: Power Words

garyguarujaI heard the phrase, “the Word of God” from the cradle.  (Do people still use cradles?) I suspect that my ears have heard and my eyes have seen the word ‘word’ over a million times. I hate how the common place milks the power from God charged words.

word13The Word is the most powerful of all words.

The Word speaks.

The Word speaks—and there is light.

The Word speaks—and separates sky from sea.

The Word speaks—and separates sea from land.

word10The Word speaks—and vegetation embellishes creation.

The Word speaks—and there is sun, moon, and stars.

The Word speaks—and ocean and sky teems with living creatures.

The Word speaks—and the land fills with livestock, animals,  and crawling creatures.

The Word speaks—and breathes His breath into a form of clay and man becomes a living soul. The Word does the first surgery and woman is God’s special gift to man.

When the Word speaks—I should want to listen.

word28The Word becomes flesh.

The Word is God fully God and fully human.

The Word introduces His full and complete nature to humankind.

The Word loves.

The Word cares.

The Word feels pain.

The Word gives.

The Word heals.

The Word forgives.

The Word teaches.

The Word prays.

The Word seeks disciples.

word29The Word feeds the hungry.

The Word bleeds.

The Word dies.

The Word enters the tomb.

The Word rises again to eternal life.

The Word gives hope.

The Word ascends to heaven.

The Word waits.

The Word sends the Holy Spirit.

The Word will return to judge creation.

word20The Word Sustains.

The Word sustains the universe.

The Word sustains my faith.

The Word sustains my trust.

The Word sustains my walk on earth.

The Word sustains my relationships.

The Word sustains my life.

The Word sustains my love.

The Word sustains my worship.

The Word sustains my growth into the likeness of Jesus.

The Word sustains my hope of life eternal.

The Word sustains my expectation of Jesus return.

The Word sustains my vision of a new heaven and a new earth.

word11The same Word that spoke; the same Word that became flesh to let me see God; the same Word that sustains all; is the Word that powers my walk on earth.

Without the word ‘Word’, my life would be anemic and senseless indeed.

Will you join me today in a recommitment to the Word?

Stay tuned.

About Dr. Gary Sorrells

From birth to death, I am God-wired. My body is not as energized as in earlier times, yet as my soul runs toward the finish line it carries a dream. I want to give glory to God by writing. Only now is the timing right to lean hard into this gift from God. For the first time in life, the totality of my God walk with family, the church, academic training, work experience, life scars, and accrued wisdom, provides value to share through the written word. It is as if all of the trails of life are crossing at this point. My formal education includes the B.A., M.A. and the Doctor of Ministry degrees in Bible from Abilene Christian University. Between 1980 and 2011, I worked with the Non-Profit entity, Great Cities Missions. I currently serve as Director Emeritus and as a member of the Board of Trustees. -Gary J Sorrells Gary@GodReflection.org

  1. I was so focused on the word as being the preserved holy scriptures (valuable? Yes!), that I missed the concept of “The Word” as person. Jesus spoke of such people as I, directing us to Him. I like the phrase from an old hymn, “My spirit pants for thee, oh living Word.”
